It definitely underscores the fact that today's photographers rarely "hit the pavement" and take straight photos as every image in this exhibition is somehow constructed or manipulated in the studio. Anyway, MoMA's new blog, Inside/Out has a great series of posts about it from the curator, Eva Respini, along with video interviews with the artists. Julia Kaganskiy commented: A fun, whimsical exhibition that really focuses on Burton's early career as an illustrator and "concept guy" at Disney. It's interesting to see his style and characters progress. The room with the film maquettes and costumes felt a little too much like Planet Hollywood for my taste, but it was delightful nonetheless I suppose because I sure was fascinated by the Edward Scissorhands scissors.
